I enjoy working in QGIS and creating maps for my own research, as well as have enjoyed doing it in the scope of my research assistantship during my Ph.D. studies. Below I am sharing with you selected examples of maps I created over the years I have been at CERGE-EI.

"Conflict and Inter-Group Trade: Evidence from the 2014 Russia-Ukraine Crisis" by Vasily Korovkin and Alexey Makarin, AER

The map displays the location of Ukrainian firms that engaged in trade with Russia at any point from 2013 through 2016 (blue dots), the network of major highways (thick orange lines) and regional roads (thin grey lines), as well as road checkpoints (green triangles). The occupied part of the Russia-Ukraine border is highlighted in red. Crimea, DPR, and LPR are highlighted in black. The rest of the Donbas region is in grey.

Created in the scope of research assistantship for Vasily Korovkin

The map illustrates the soil suitability for cotton cultivation, the railroads (yellow lines), and location and number of firms (red circles) in 1931 India. Lighter color of green indicates higher suitability level.

Potato to the Rescue: Home Production and Child Nutrition during Deep Economic Crises

The map illustrates the soil suitability index for potato cultivations in the second administrative division levels in Kazakhstan and the locations of localities from KLSMS. The higher levels of soil suitability are indicated by darker colors and the height of the polygons and the locations are indicated by pink dots.

Violent Conflicts and Child Gender Preferences of Parents: Evidence from Nigeria

The map illustrates the cumulative number of conflict events from the Upsala Conflict Data Program for seven years preceding the rounds of the Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in Nigeria. Darker color indicates higher number of conflict events.
